Some melodies are composed. Others simply arrive.
Over the course of five years, these thirteen original niggunim came to me seemingly of their own accord — sometimes unexpectedly, sometimes in moments of quiet reflection, but always without intention. They seemed to find me, taking shape in my mind and heart, each with its own character, emotion, and story to tell.
For years, these niggunim remained largely unheard, waiting for the means to bring them fully to life. With the emergence of remarkable new music production technologies, I was finally able to give expression to the sounds and arrangements I had long imagined, transforming these deeply personal melodies into a collection that could be shared with the world.
The album takes its name, מֵאֵלָיו (Me'eilav), from the Hebrew expression meaning "of its own accord" — a reflection of the spontaneous way these melodies first came into being.
Rooted in the timeless Chassidic tradition of the niggun, in which melody gives voice to feelings that words cannot adequately express, this collection journeys through moments of longing and hope, joy and yearning, love and introspection. Some niggunim are contemplative and tender; others are spirited and uplifting. Each is an invitation to experience something beyond the limitations of language.
These are melodies that found me. It is my hope that, in some small way, they might find their way into your heart as well.
